Will Principal Lawrence Hernandez have a special place in hell?

When questioned about his statement that "There must be a special place in hell" for "those charterizers" Colorado State Representative Mike Merrifield, a retired band teacher, said that the comments were made in private and intended for Eric Christen and other vocal charter school advocates on the Colorado Springs District 11 School Board.

How are Christen and Cox different than Lawrence Hernandez?  As the principal of a now highly lauded publicly funded school we here at "thinkBig" would like to more clearly understand Representative Merrifield's position.  We're not saying that his comments were necessarily out of line.  But, as individuals that recognize innovation and "out of the box" thinking when we see it, we're a little mystified about the close-minded nature of Merrifield's comments.

What role do big, small, and in-between sized labor unions play in the social and economic landscape of Colorado?

My editorial comment on this is that although there was certainly a time and a place for "big organized labor," times have changed  and the individuals who want to make a financial and social impact through what they do and how much they earn are more hampered by unions than empowered.  -RWR
